Module 5 - Insulin
In this module, you'll learn about insulin and how it works. Topics include the difference between Basal and Bolus insulin, how to calculate an insulin dose, how to deliver insulin with a vial and syringe, and the different methods for giving insulin, including insulin pumps.
How Does Insulin Work?

In this video, you'll learn about all insulin, including the two types of insulin we prescribe (Bolus and Basal) and how each type operates in the body.

Carb Ratio & Correction Factor
In this video, you'll learn about the "carb ratio" and "correction factor", two numbers which play an important part in determining how much insulin a child needs to give for every meal and to correct high blood glucose.

Giving Insulin at a Meal
In this video, you'll learn about how to calculate an insulin dose for a meal using carb counting and your child's specific Carb Ratio, Correction Factor, and Correction Target. We'll walk through the steps to calculate a Carb Dose and then how to add a Correction Dose if the blood glucose is higher than the Target Range.

Delivering Insulin (Vial & Syringe)
In this video, you'll learn how to properly prepare and deliver an insulin dose using a vial and syringe, the most basic tools for delivering insulin.

Insulin Delivery Methods
In this video, you'll learn about different methods for delivering insulin, including insulin pens and the basics of insulin pumps.
